Home Learning Maths Mastery
During this difficult time, where we are faced with school closures, we want to help you as parents to support your children's learning at home.
Mathematics, for some, can be a subject that brings fear and dread, often based on your own personal experiences at school or can be a subject of confusions for those parents who remember being taught very differently.
We use the Pearson Power Maths scheme for teaching maths from Year 1 to Year 6 which follows the mastery approach to learning.
At the heart of Power Maths is the belief that all children can achieve. It is built around a child centred lesson design that models and embeds a growth mindset approach to maths.
Power Maths helps all children to build a deep understanding of maths concepts and confidence in maths. For each year group the curriculum strands are broken down into core concepts. These are taught in blocks of lessons giving sufficient time to develop a deep and sustainable understanding of core maths concepts. Each concept is broken down into lessons and each lesson and concept builds on prior knowledge to help children build a robust and deep understanding of the concept before moving on.
We are providing all children with a Power Maths practice book to work through. Detailed lesson flipcharts to guide you through the lessons will be posted on your child's Seesaw platform.
You can also access the teacher textbook and practise books by following the links below and agreeing to the terms and conditions.
The video opposite also provides further guidance about accessing these resources.
Our calculation policies show progression in calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) This policy shows how the consistent use of the CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) approach across Power Maths helps children develop mastery in both written and mental methods across all the operations in an efficient and reliable way.
