What is Arts Award?

Arts Award is a unique set of qualifications that supports children and young people in enjoying the arts and developing as artists and art leaders. Arts award launched in 2005 and by 1st January 2019 430,524 arts awards had been achieved at one of 5 levels: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Young people completing Arts Award acquire creative and communication skills that are essential for success in 21st Century life.

Why should I consider doing my arts award?

There are five key areas where Arts Award has been found to have a positive impact on children and young people.

Of the many positive impacts that Arts Award can have on young people, a key area is the development of skills transferable to the world of work, such as increased confidence, leadership and organisational skills.

Arts Award is a highly respected and universal qualification, based on sound approaches to teaching and learning.

Arts Award influences young people’s choices of subjects and supports successful applications for further study. It encourages young people to explore new areas of the arts.

Completing an Arts Award encourages independent learning, communication and networking skills, all vital for a career as a freelancer or arts entrepreneur.

Arts Award develops young people from all backgrounds as creative artists and arts leaders, nurturing their understanding of routes to education and employment in the creative and cultural sector.

Which level is right for me?

Arts Award’s flexible framework means young people can work across a wide range of arts and cultural activities and projects, including creative and technical roles. Young people can start at any level or progress through all five. Your adviser can identify the level that best meets your needs, interests and abilities.

At Forsbrook, we currently offer the following two levels to children:

Where can I do my Arts Award?

Here at Forsbrook CE Primary School, our children and young people can gain both their Discover and Explore awards.

Who can access the courses?

  • The Discover qualification is open to children from Year 3 upwards.

  • The Explore qualification is open to children from Year 4 upwards.

Is there an age limit?

The upper age limit for Arts Award (set by Trinity College, London) is 25 years.

How can I participate?

Discover and Explore are run as an After School Club and begin at the start of the school year. The clubs appear on the Club List Timetable that is sent home with every child. All you need to do is complete the form as usual and return to school. Places will be limited.

What will I learn?

The qualifications are a great opportunity for children to follow their particular area of interest. Children are encouraged to personalise their learning as much as they can and learn about the arts that make their heart sing!!

What is the cost of the courses?

Discover - At the moment, there is no charge for this course as it is not moderated.

Explore – The cost of this course will vary depending on the number of candidates. This course does require moderation at the end which incurs a cost set by Trinity College, London. This cost will be shared equally among all candidates. Costing is yet to be finalised but we are hopeful that it will not go over £20.00.
